The symbol or string of text known as xxx is most commonly known for it’s pornography background.

There has historically been some censorship around the subject and content of xxx however as a result of the rise of Internet download speeds and social networking there has been a drastic rise the consumption of xxx. Most notably through sites such as xnxx.

XXX is also a domain ending that is recently introduced to allow the porn industry more extensions. The online consumption of such xxx media is so high the revenue created is in the billions/year.

The attempt at restricting xxx content to the xxx TLD will not work as everyone still has rights to publish content within any TLD.

However it’s still a reasonable idea as the proliferation of xxx content worldwide is considerable.

The ease with which this content can be viewed is perhaps the most alarming. The reality is that xxx media will always have huge demand and therefore there will always be media uploaded. Youtube does not allow such media however there are similar sites that do allow this explicit content to be uploaded by anyone.

Such changes in social media and personal video use have created an exponential rise in not only the consumption but also the personal creation of explicit xxx video content.

Now anyone with a flip cam or iphone can video and upload anonymous content.

Much of this content is never uploaded for all to see for obvious reasons however even if a small percentage is it makes for an intersting proposition for paid actors.

One of the funny things with web related xxx searchers is the complete lack of diversity… Almost every result comes up with some sort of pornography related tube site. You will get the odd nervously written Wikipedia article but apart from that it’s all about the video content sites.

Almost all of these sites will be free – much like youtube but for adult related media.

The top sites will be redtube, xnxx, xvideos and youporn but there are many many others…

The XXX category online is bursting at the seems with continuously updated video sites, image sites and paid niche sites. Will it ever end? Not unless the demand eases up and this is very unlikely.

So how should you and the 18+ society at large respond to such an abundance of xxx online? It appears that we are embracing and consuming it in ever larger quantities.

What is always interesting is the response from conservative media outlets and even google. They like banning and restricting searches based on what they call an adult content filter. Magazines like COSMO are all about the next best sex position to make your orgasm but shy away from the reality of the real thing because that apparently goes to far.

It seems that we are all to keen to take a peak at xxx but not go all the way see a 7 min clip until we are well behind closed doors. Cleo and cosmo magazines know what everyone’s thinking (including women) and know what everyone’s searching for but are also aware that they will be scaring a women off if they reveal to much. xxx is one delicate matter and it seems as though it will always be delicate so long as the reality of sex is to much to handle in a casual normal day setting.

So will XXX continue to be cast off to the dark depths of the web? Will it always be a once off visit to a mobile xnxx site for 10 minutes of guilty stolen bliss or will society accept their natural urge and inherent interest.

If history is anything to go by it seems that XXX will always have a place, but that place is firmly set behind closed doors and will certainly NOT be showing up on the front page of msnbc.com
